A Yorkshire Company for 100 Years

Our story began in 1926 when Edward Hughes moved to Bradford from Wales and started a bakery business on Fairbank Road in Bradford. Over the years the bakery moved to Lilycroft Road (1959), and Girlington Road (1976). In 2000 we moved to our current location in Hirst Wood where we sell wholesale to shops and supermarkets as well as schools, major retailers, and hospitality.

Furthermore, we use a local Yorkshire dairy, as well as using flour milled in Yorkshire. We also employ locally with many of our staff choosing to walk to work.

The Bakery

We are a family run bakery in Saltaire, in the heart of Yorkshire. Hughes Bakery is a proud member of the Craft Bakers Association (CBA) and we are registered with Safe And Local Supplier Approval (SALSA) — ensuring we meet these standards is a main priority within our bakery. We strive to ensure that every item we bake is crafted to the highest standards. At Hughes Bakery we pride ourselves on our work ethic and traditional, yet innovative, baking and we endeavour to invest and use the best machinery and ingredients on the market.

From the mixing of the ingredients to the baking of our products, craft and dedication play a vital part within our business. We use traditional methods within a modern bakery to provide great tasting products. We never rush a process and we pride our business on “quality without compromise” allowing our breads to rest and our delicious confectionery and cream cakes to be baked by eye and finished by hand.

Cream Room

Our purpose-built, chilled, and fully segregated Fresh Cream Cake Production Room is dedicated to the production of high-quality traditional fresh dairy cream cakes. We create hand-finished cream cakes in both twin-pack and single-pack formats for retail and foodservice customers.

We are proud to use fresh cream sourced from Yorkshire through our long-standing partnership with Dales Dairies as well as using other premium, local ingredients.

Delivery Vans

Our fleet of nine purpose-built delivery vans is designed to provide reliable and efficient distribution across Yorkshire. Equipped with multi-temperature capabilities, including both ambient and chilled storage, our vehicles ensure products are transported under the correct conditions to maintain quality and freshness.

Supported by a team of dedicated and conscientious delivery drivers, we proudly serve customers throughout the county, covering an extensive area from Richmond to Whitby and Bradford to Sheffield. Deliveries are available Monday to Saturday*, providing a dependable service tailored to the needs of our customers.
